The US State Department has approved the possible sale of system logistics and sustainment support to Saudi Arabia.
The estimated $2.8 billion sale includes Joint Mission Planning Software hardware and support and KIV-77/78 cryptographic devices.
Riyad requested the products and services in support of its air force’s platforms and aircraft fleets, including KC-130J, C-130, E-3, RE-3, KE-3, KA 350, Bell 212, and Bell 412 aircraft.
“The proposed sale will improve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s capability to deter current and future threats by providing sustainment and training support of the Royal Saudi Air Force’s existing platforms and aircraft fleets,” the State Department said in a press release.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and these services into its armed forces.”
Multiple Contractors
No prime contractor is assigned for the deal as there will be “various contractors associated with the provision of equipment and services involved with this case,” the State Department stated.
The department earlier approved the possible sale of multifunctional information distribution systems and related equipment to Saudi Arabia for an estimated $101.1 million.
The sale intended to provide jam-proof and secure digital data and voice communications for air, sea, and ground platforms.
