Poland has invested 2.6 billion zlotych ($661.8 million) to procure Wolverine armored personnel carriers for the armed forces.
The project covers 58 vehicles, ZSSW-30 unmanned turrets, corresponding spare parts, and logistics services.
Deliveries are expected from 2026 to 2027.
This latest acquisition follows an initiative in 2023 to purchase 100 Wolverines for Ukraine to bolster its ground defense against Russia.
The project was funded by the Polish government, parts of which were sourced from allies including the US and the EU.
In 2022, Poland ordered 11 additional Wolverines for its military on top of 33 vehicles bought under an initial contract in 2014.
Supporting ZSSW-30 Turret Program
According to Poland’s national armaments agency, the new Wolverine contract serves as the government’s second primary order made for an ongoing program seeking up to 341 ZSSW-30s.
The ZSSW-30 is a remotely-controlled capability equipped with a 30-millimeter Bushmaster cannon that is locally manufactured in Poland.
It features a stabilizer, fire control, and modern gunner sight for enhanced neutralization effects as well as the option to deploy Spike long-range anti-tank guided missiles.
Moreover, users can reconfigure the weapon station’s caliber from its 30-millimeter standard setup to 40-millimeter depending on mission requirements.
Poland signed the first contract under its ZSSW-30 expansion in July 2022, which covered 70 units to complement the armed forces’ Wolverine fleet.
Work for the overall turret program will proceed until 2027.
The Wolverine
Poland’s Wolverine is based on the Patria armored modular vehicle developed for the Finnish Defence Forces.
The Wolverine is a 7.7-meter (25-foot) long platform operated by a three-man crew that can transport up to eight passengers.
It is powered by a Scania engine with up to 610 horsepower for a speed of 100 kilometers (60 miles) per hour and an operational range of 800 kilometers (500 miles).
