Brazilian Army Buys 420 Iveco Light Multirole Vehicles

The Brazilian Army has purchased 420 LMV-BR 2 (light multirole vehicles) from Italy’s Iveco Defence Vehicles.

Known domestically as the “Guaicurus,” the vehicles are expected to improve the service’s tactical readiness across various terrain.

According to the manufacturer, Brasília will receive two variants of the light multirole vehicle — one with a manual weapon system and the other with a remote-controlled weapons station.

It further stated that all vehicles will be fitted with a command-and-control system.

The Guaicurus will be produced at Iveco’s facility in southeastern Brazil, with deliveries expected to commence in 2026.

The total value of the contract is 1.4 billion Brazilian reals ($257.3 million).

About the Guaicurus

First introduced in 2001, the LMV-BR 2 is a 4×4 light armored vehicle capable of supporting transport, reconnaissance, combat, and peacekeeping missions.

It features a V-hull and a collapsible sandwich structure to protect against mine blasts.

Its modular design also allows for additional protection, depending on customer requirements.

According to Iveco, the Guaicurus has been developed with user feedback and operational insights, ensuring it meets the requirements of modern military operations.

More than 4,000 LMVs have reportedly been sold to 15 countries, including Italy.
