Oregon-based drone developer Teledyne FLIR has unveiled its new small unmanned ground vehicle (SUGV 325) at a military industry convention in Paris.

The SUGV 325 is a customizable, portable platform for dismounted and mobile deployments.

It weighs approximately 9.1 kilograms (20 pounds) and is designed to support “single-person carry” for foot soldiers traversing stairs and rough terrain.

The rugged system combines high-definition and long-wave infrared sensors, 360-degree cameras, a 30x optical zoom, two-way radio, and a robotic arm with a wide range of motion, allowing operators to perform complex tasks.

The vehicle’s rapid deployable build and maximum speed of up to 11 kilometers (7 miles) per hour can be leveraged for quick interception of threats.

Additionally, the drone’s modular architecture enables future integration of accessories and payloads depending on mission requirements.

The SUGV 325 is operated via multi-robot software. It has a default touchscreen and a hand controller that can be scaled to different Android tablet sizes.

It can also connect to a secure network and includes an onboard battery for up to eight hours of deployment.

Flexible Utility

Teledyne wrote that the SUGV 325’s capabilities are advantageous for defense applications, including remote chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) inspections, surveillance and reconnaissance, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) missions.

“Our new SUGV 325 delivers enhanced portability and technology that make a wide range of operations easier for warfighters,” Teledyne FLIR Defense – Unmanned Systems North America VP Tung Ng explained.

“With its superior mobility and situational awareness, this multi-mission robot gives users a highly-mobile system to keep them from harm’s way when interrogating threats.”

“We’re proud to offer the new SUGV 325 as we continue innovating our entire portfolio of unmanned ground platforms for customers worldwide.”
