Automotive manufacturer AM General is debuting its Joint Tactical Vehicle A2 (JLTV A2) Utility variant at the Eurostratory exhibition in Paris from June 17 to 21.

It features FN Firearms’ FNder medium remote weapon station for defense, infantry fire support, and long-range combat missions.

According to the firm, the JLTV A2 includes “many significant improvements” over the A1, including better fuel efficiency due to “improved drive gear coding,” an enhanced lithium-ion battery replacing the earlier version’s two lead-acid batteries, improved corrosion protection, and greater accessibility for easier maintenance.

“Eurosatory is the perfect international stage to unveil the JLTV A2 and demonstrate the enhancements made to this incredible platform and how these will positively impact the combatant,” AM General President and Delegated Director Jim Cannon said.

“As we accelerate the program, it is also important for us to communicate to our customers the procurement process, through Foreign Military Sales, for the JLTV A2 and being at this far-reaching show allows us to do that.”

Taken Over From Oshkosh Defense

Previously manufactured by Oshkosh Defense, the US Army recently began awarding contracts to Indiana-based AM General to manufacture and deliver an undisclosed number of the JLTVs.

The company won a recompete contract over Oshkosh Defense to provide 20,000 JLTVs for the US Army In February 2023.

Oshkosh initially received the deal in 2015, but the army exercised the option to open bidding again to find a cheaper offer.

Oshkosh protested, claiming the government did not fully review financial, technical, and manufacturing specifications.

However, a protest response from the US Government Accountability Office upheld the decision, saying the army “reasonably and equally conducted discussions” before issuing its verdict.
