Northrop Grumman has signed a long-term agreement with Chemring Nobel AS for the supply of HMX energetic material.
Chemring will supply the explosive powder for Northrop’s Missile Products manufacturing location at Rocket Center, West Virginia.
The 15-year agreement secures HMX supply amid surging demand for the critical chemical used in the production of smart tactical missile warheads.
Supports Tech Development, Investment
The agreement guarantees lead times, annual quantities, and predictable pricing.
Work will be carried out at Nobel’s Saetre facility in Norway, supporting the development of advanced technologies and industrial investments in the country.
“Northrop Grumman is committed to supporting Norway and its NATO partners in ensuring the security of the High North,” Northrop Grumman’s corporate vice president and global business development officer Stephen O’Bryan said.
“The company is forging enduring partnerships with Norwegian industry, having awarded more than $500M in contracts in the last ten years.”
Chemring Receives $83 Million Order
As part of the agreement, Northrop placed its first order of HMX for $83 million.
Delivery will commence in fiscal year 2026 and run through 2029.
“These awards, which illustrate the long-term and valued relationship that we enjoy with Northrop Grumman, support our decision to invest in increasing the capacity of our three energetics businesses over the medium-term, and reinforces Chemring’s position as a key supplier to NATO,” Chemring’s chief executive Michael Ord said.
