Hungary has received two new Leopard 2A7HU battle tanks, increasing the Tarczay Ervin 11th Tank Battalion’s battle fleet to 13.
The vehicles will be stationed at the Hungarian Defence Force Base in Tata, northwest Hungary, where other Leopards are currently in service.
Part of the delivery includes a driver training tank, which will be used in the armor officers’ month-long vocational training to operate the new vehicles.
The country is expecting 35 more Leopards by 2028.
The Most Advanced Leopard
The 2A7HU is the most advanced model of the Krauss-Maffei Leopard tank, equipped with an L55A1 120 mm Rheinmetall tank gun that can accurately hit targets 3 miles (5 kilometers) away.
Its main gun is supported by a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, a remote-controlled weapon station with a 12.7 mm machine gun, and eight 76mm smoke grenade launchers.
For defense, it utilizes composite armor made up of high-hardness steel, tungsten and plastic-ceramic filler. Its belly armor also makes it nearly invulnerable to mines and improvised explosive devices.
