Azerbaijan Uses Counter Artillery Israeli Radar in Military Exercise
The Azerbaijani Land Forces used the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Elta ELM-2084 multi mission radar during a recent artillery exercise, Janes reported.
A smaller version of the radar supported the artillery in the May 16 exercise, including the 2S19 Msta-S self-propelled howitzer and 2A36 Giatsint-B towed gun, the outlet wrote, citing an Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) video.
Baku has not confirmed the report nor the system’s procurement.
However, the radar has at least been seen twice in MoD videos, once in April 2020 along with the IAI Barak-8 air-defense system deployed north of Baku, according to Janes.

The scalable mobile radar can be configured for air surveillance, counter rocket artillery, mortar, and fire control.
Open architecture allows the integration of “additional sensors such as SIGINT, IFF (all modes), and EO/IR,” according to IAI.
“Each radar employs advanced 4-D full Active Electronically Scanning Array enabling electronic steering in azimuth and elevation, and is based on high-performance Gallium Nitride RF modules.”
