Raytheon has inaugurated a $115-million infrastructure project to expand its Redstone Missile Integration Facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

The company will construct an additional 26,000-square-foot (2,415 square meters) area to increase the center’s space dedicated to delivery and integration capabilities for vital defense programs by more than 50 percent.

It is expected to create 185 new opportunities, increasing the company’s employee footprint in the state to over 2,200.

The expansion is set to be completed in 2025.

Redstone Missile Integration Facility

Raytheon’s Redstone Missile Integration Facility opened in 2012. Since then, the center has been serving as a final integration point for numerous missile programs under the US Navy, Missile Defense Agency, and other defense partners.

Currently, the factory covers assembly for nine variants of the Standard Missile family, including the latest SM-3 counter-ballistic interceptor and SM-6 multi-mission missile.

The company wrote that the hub will accommodate newer defense programs, including the Glide Phase Interceptor being promoted as a solution for advanced hypersonic threats.

“This important investment in the Huntsville region will help us meet the growing needs of our military customers and service members,” Raytheon President Phil Jasper remarked.

“It will also ready our operations to accelerate delivery of our vital counter-hypersonic solution.”

Missile Factory in Arkansas

Raytheon partnered with Israeli defense contractor Rafael in February to construct a Tamir missile facility in Arkansas to support US and Israeli warhead requirements.

The Tamir is among the primary missiles used by Tel Aviv’s Iron Dome.

The center, which will be built in East Camden, will also manufacture the Tamir’s American variant SkyHunter for the US and its allies.

Plans for the Arkansas factory were first announced in October 2023.
