Quantum Systems has opened a drone factory and development hub in Ukraine to fast-track the supply of reconnaissance capabilities for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The new facility — the German company’s second in Ukraine — is expected to increase its production capacity to 1,000 drones per year, including spare parts.
The firm plans to invest 6 million euros ($6.4 million) over the next two years to further support its production line and employees.
Quantum Systems CEO Florian Seibel remarked that the partnership underlines Kyiv’s trust in the company’s capabilities.
“With our own plant, we want to express our trust in Ukraine and our conviction that the future of drone technology is being written here,” Seibel said.
So far, Quantum has provided Ukraine with 212 of its Vector reconnaissance drones. The group expects to deliver 500 by the end of the year.
Unmanned Tactics
Kyiv has made great use of drones to reduce casualties while countering Russia’s armed forces.
The aircraft are integrated into strike teams that connect through satellite communications to organize tactical operations.
They are also used to conduct aerial strikes on Russian energy sites to slow Moscow’s advances in the east.
To aid in its new mission plans, allies from the Ukraine Defense Contact Group have created a drone coalition to supply the country with more unmanned equipment.
The coalition is led by Latvia with support from Sweden and the UK.
