BAE Systems Maritime Australia has contracted UK-based Chess Dynamics to deliver SeaEagle Fire Control Electro-Optical surveillance systems for the first batch of Royal Australian Navy Hunter-class frigates.
The system provides round-the-clock detection, tracking, identification, and engagement of air and surface targets through its daylight and high-resolution infrared cameras.
It also features a laser rangefinder to determine target range, while a software suite provides a comprehensive picture of the maritime environment.
To Be Integrated With Combat Management System
The system will be integrated into the frigate’s combat management system, providing tracking data of surface and air targets for the weapon system.
The data can be shared with other ships and assets, enhancing overall maritime situational awareness.
The first ship is expected to be commissioned in 2034 to begin replacing the Anzac-class.
“We are delighted to have been selected by BAE Systems Maritime Australia to provide our SeaEagle FCEO surveillance systems for the RAN’s Hunter-class frigates,” Chess Dynamics Group Managing Director David Tuddenham said.
“Our system is a proven performer, and we are confident that it will provide the [Royal Australian Navy] with the capability it needs to operate effectively in increasingly demanding maritime environments.”
