The Royal Saudi Navy (RSN) has taken delivery of its fifth and final Avante 2200 corvette from Spanish state-owned shipbuilder Navantia.

A ceremony took place at the King Faisal naval base in Jeddah to mark the new milestone, with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khaled Bin Salman and other defense officials in attendance.

According to the company, the “HMS Unayzah” is one of the most technologically advanced corvettes, capable of handling multi-combat missions with high efficiency.

It is expected to enhance the RSN’s combat readiness, help defend the Kingdom’s strategic and vital interests, and support maritime peace and security in the region.

The delivery marks the culmination of the Al-Sarawat project to acquire five corvettes that meet the operational requirements of the RSN.

About the HMS Unayzah

The recently delivered corvette boasts a length of 104 meters (341 feet) and can accommodate up to 102 people.

It offers advanced performance, excellent work at sea, and high survivability, according to Navantia.

The ship is also capable of operating in extreme temperatures.

The RSN received its first Avante 2200 corvette in September 2022 and has since participated in international maritime patrols.

The manufacturer said around 700 crew members, including engineers and maintainers, are undergoing training in Spain to support the operations of the five RSN corvettes.
