Australian Target Systems (ATS) has received a contract to provide live-fire target capabilities supporting Canberra’s military training.

The five-year initiative, valued at 33 million Australian dollars ($21.6 million), will supply “leading edge” target systems and corresponding support services at training ranges across the country as well as target kits for warfighters stationed abroad.

The platforms will serve as a critical element to upskill personnel in collective and individual combat shooting preparations across realistic scenarios once delivered, the Australian defense ministry wrote.

Work for the project will secure more than 40 jobs and 11 additional positions, including the employment of veterans, in the Albury-based company.

Sustaining Local Partnership

ATS is a wholly veteran-owned business that has been collaborating with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) since the 1950s.

The firm’s product portfolio includes traditional, steel, and robotic targets, live-fire environment equipment, video target simulations, an advanced range operating system, and a projectile location system.

ATS also offers deployable ranges, combined arms ranges, and marksmanship training ranges for defense customers.

“Australian Target Systems has been an important defence industry partner for many years with a strong history in the delivery and support of target systems to the Australian Defence Force,” Australian Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy stated.

“This contract underscores the Albanese Government’s commitment to supporting Australia’s defence industry, and in particular working with smaller companies, to help them grow while also creating jobs for locals.

“The Defence Strategic Review recognises that Australian defence industry plays a vital role in equipping and sustaining the ADF, contributing to the economy and regional stability.”
