Saab has won a $102-million contract from Boeing to supply fuselage systems for the T-7A Red Hawk advanced trainer aircraft.

The component is expected to improve the structural efficiency of the aircraft and improve its aerodynamic performance.

According to the Swedish defense firm, the order will ensure that the Red Hawk can meet customers’ current and future needs.

“What we are building is the most modern and forward-looking advanced pilot training system on the market and I am confident that this is a program that will deliver aircraft for many years to come,” Saab’s Aeronautics business area head Lars Tossman said.

Work for the contract will be performed at the company’s manufacturing facility in West Lafayette, Indiana.

It is described as a “low-risk” asset that can deliver “a multi-generational leap in capability” to revolutionize fighter pilot training.

It boasts modern avionics, advanced display systems, and spacious seating to give instructors and student pilots an excellent view of the cockpit.

Additionally, the Red Hawk features an open systems architecture and digital fly-by-wire controls for added flexibility.

In November 2023, the US Air Force received its first two T-7A Red Hawk trainers to undergo developmental flight tests.
