The US Army has awarded Allison Transmission an $83.3 million contract to supply upgraded and new X1100 transmissions for the Abrams main battle tank.

Under the agreement, the Indiana-based company will provide the transmissions to the service and foreign military sales customers.

The firm will combine new content with current customer hardware, providing a “zero-mileage transmission” as part of the Abrams System Enhancement Package.

Deliveries will run from this month through December 2024.

“Allison is proud to be part of the world’s premier main battle tank supporting the US Army and our close partners. We look forward to continued support of these customers in the decades to come,” Vice President for Defense Programs at Allison Transmission Dana Pittard said.

Allison Contracts With US Army

The deal builds upon a longstanding relationship between Allison and the US Army.

The firm was originally awarded a $51-million contract to support the Abrams modernization in December 2022.

The army also selected Allison in August of the same year to produce an electric hybrid sub-system to integrate into future armored combat vehicles.

“Allison is proud of our relationships with the US Army and the world’s finest defense vehicle manufacturers,” Pittard said.

“The future is very exciting as Allison will have a new defense production program launch every year for the next several years.”
