Joint venture company Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) is set to deliver 300 trucks to Austria in a 300 million euro ($329 million) deal.
The agreement is an extension of an older contract for up to 1,375 military vehicles, estimated to be worth 525 million euros ($574 million).
Work for the contract is set to run for two years, with the possibility of flexible call-offs of vehicles.
The expansion is part of the Austrian Army’s Build-up Plan 2023 initiative, which calls for substantial investment in the country’s military capabilities.
A High-Mobility Vehicle
The additional trucks will come primarily from RMMV’s HX truck range, which offers heavy off-road support with its wear-free shock absorbers and stabilizers.
Its gross train weight can reach up to 120 tons, making it an ideal cargo and troop carrier.
Moreover, its six-cylinder MAN D2066 engine allows it to reach 300 miles (483 kilometers) of operational range, with a maximum speed of 62 miles per hour.
Modernizing the Force
RMMV managing director Michael Wittlinger said that the new capabilities will enhance the resilience and sustainment of the Austrian Army.
“The expansion of the framework agreement with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH is another strong sign that the Austrian Army is modernizing, but this applies all the more so to the Austrian economy,” he shared.
RMMV has worked closely with the Austrian Army to promote modernization in the force, delivering military vehicles from the company’s TGM, TGS, and HX lines used mostly in heavy military transport.
