L3Harris Technologies has been contracted to develop upgraded fire control units compatible with the US Army’s tracked and wheeled rocket artillery systems.

The company will provide the Common Fire Control System (CFCS) under contracts worth up to $124 million.

CFCS Benefits

Featuring enhanced digital processing power and modernized computing infrastructure, the CFCS eliminates manual assembly and component preparation, L3Harris explained.

Moreover, a common solution for M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) vehicles reduces life cycle costs and simplifies production, maintenance, logistics, and training.

It comprises a common launcher control unit, weapon control unit, and a power switching unit.

Increased Production

The company stepped up CFCS production as demand increased for the HIMARS and MLRS due to the Ukraine war.

“L3Harris is increasing CFCS production rates through streamlined supply chain and manufacturing processes to support increased demand driven by the Ukraine conflict,” the company wrote.
