The US has awarded Oshkosh Defense a $208-million contract to supply Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV), corresponding trailers, packages, and installed kits.

The tranche will be distributed to the US Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps once delivered.

Humvee Replacement

The JLTV was designed to replace the US military’s soon-to-retire High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles or Humvees developed by AM General.

The new fleet incorporates enhanced payload capacity and protection, and improved mobility for warfare.

It was manufactured with a purpose-built modular architecture to meet future user requirements for protection kits, weapon systems, communications, and other tactical capabilities.

Oshkosh wrote that more than 100 mission package configurations can be integrated with each JLTV without decreasing functionality.

JLTVs in US Defense

Oshkosh won the initial contract to provide the US Department of Defense with JLTVs in 2015.

Last December, the company signed a $543-million agreement to produce the vehicles for US joint forces.

Oshkosh received a separate contract valued at $591 million in 2021 to deliver JLTV trucks and trailers for the US armed forces.

“We spent the last decade committed to learning, improving processes, establishing a robust supply chain, as well as a world-class team of experts to design and produce the most reliable light tactical vehicle in the industry,” Oshkosh Defense Programs VP George Mansfield stated.

“We are extremely proud of our execution of the JLTV program, including its reputation as a model procurement project due to consistent on-schedule and under budget production.”

Supporting Allied Militaries

Since its partnership with the US government, Oshkosh has also provided military vehicles to allied forces, including EU states and NATO members, through foreign military sales and direct commercial sales.

The firm expects to join further projects supporting US warfighter mobility and firepower.

“Oshkosh Defense has partnered with the US Military for decades to develop, test, and evolve advanced military technologies,” Mansfield added.

“We look forward to further supporting the US Army in their modernization efforts including the Robotic Combat Vehicle, Stryker Medium Caliber Weapon System (MCWS), and future programs.”
