The Spanish government has entered into an agreement with German firm Sig Sauer for the delivery of 20 MCX submachine guns to its naval forces.

According to a report by Infodefensa, the model under order is the MCX Rattle, the same variant the Spanish Civil Guard acquired earlier this year.

It is available in both the 5.56×45-millimeter NATO caliber and the 7.62×35-millimeter caliber.

The weapons are expected to arrive within the next 14 months.

Once delivery is complete, one likely end-user of the guns is the country’s Special Naval Warfare Force, considered the “green berets” of the navy.

Features

Sig Sauer’s MCX Rattler is a compact submachine gun designed for covert operations.

It has a weight of only 2.6 kilograms (5.7 pounds), a height of 20.3 centimeters (7.8 inches), and a total length of 59.7 centimeters (23.6 inches).

One of its unique features is its ability to operate without requiring any part replacements until after firing 20,000 rounds in total.

Its controls, levers, and buttons are also almost similar to those in the AR-15 type rifle, eliminating the need for additional training.

The MCX Rattler submachine gun will reportedly replace the aging Heckler & Koch MP-5 submachine guns in service with the Spanish Navy.
