Kraken Technology has tapped the services of L3Harris to advance and refine its dolphin-like K40 MANTA unmanned surface-subsurface vehicle (USSV) prototype.

As part of the agreement, the American firm will help develop and integrate the innovative control systems required for the underwater drone.

The systems will enhance the autonomous capabilities of the USSV, setting the foundation to unlock full autonomy in the future.

According to Kraken Technology, the K40 MANTA platform needs cutting-edge control systems, and L3Harris possesses the necessary components and expertise for their seamless integration.

“These integrated systems will enable the remote control of the uncrewed platform for engineering testing, foil development, powertrain calibration, and demonstration before enhancement in later developmental stages,” the company stated.

‘Innovative Platform’

Kraken’s K40 MANTA is a scalable, innovative undersea platform capable of transporting up to 2,200 pounds (1,000 kilograms) of payload over large distances.

It can submerge to carry out covert infiltration of enemies, persistent reconnaissance, and loitering missions.

The submersible drone is equipped for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare operations.

The developer wants the full version of the K40 MANTA to be able to carry out more than 10 days of autonomous operations with the help of L3Harris.

“We look forward to working with L3Harris on the implementation of key systems for K40 MANTA as a foundation for future developments,” Kraken CEO Mal Crease said.
