Israel’s Elbit Systems has entered into an agreement with KNDS to jointly develop a rocket artillery system for European as well as NATO nations.

To be called the “EuroPULS,” the weapon system is expected to address the growing need for precision rocket artillery capabilities in the region.

The EuroPuls could be integrated into mobility platforms to fire on targets with extended range and pinpoint accuracy.

According to the Israeli firm, the next-generation rocket artillery system will be based on its existing PULS Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), which is capable of firing advanced rockets up to 300 kilometers (186 miles).

KNDS, a prominent European land systems supplier, will also integrate its modular fire control system to improve the EuroPULS’ accuracy and overall performance.

The developers explained that the rocket architecture would not be designed for a specific type of missile, considering the diverse range of munitions being procured by European nations.

Elbit’s PULS

Elbit Systems said its PULS MLRS is designed to maximize response with optimal firing flexibility, eliminating the need for special modifications.

It can reportedly fire less than one minute from initiation.

The system features two pods to accommodate Accular 122-millimeter and 160-millimeter rockets.

Additionally, the PULS is fully adaptable to existing platforms, reducing maintenance and training costs.

“The launcher was specifically designed to bridge the gaps between all artillery building blocks: means of fire, sensors, and C4I (command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence),” the company stated.

Learning From the Ukraine War

The development comes amid Russia’s continuing aggression in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly said that air defense and artillery are a priority in the conflict.

In June, a US Senator revealed that the possibility of Washington sending the long-range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to Kyiv was “high.”

The missile, along with other rocket systems, could give Ukraine a major boost in countering Russian attacks, according to several military analysts.
