Germany Orders Additional 40 Marder Infantry Vehicles for Ukraine

Germany has ordered an additional 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine.

Berlin awarded the multi-million-euro contract to Rheinmetall in August. 

The firm is overhauling the older Marder 1A3s to get the first lot ready for delivery by this year.

80 Marders Contracted for Ukraine

Germany has already delivered 40 Marders to Ukraine, and an additional 20 were contracted in June to be sent to the country by this summer.

Rheinmetall said it began overhauling the vehicles to a state of immediate combat readiness at its own expense in the spring of 2022 and could deliver up to 10 vehicles per month.

German Military Aid to Ukraine

Berlin announced military aid worth 2.7 billion euros ($2.9 billion) for Ukraine in May. 

Germany’s military assistance to Ukraine to repel the Russian invasion includes 38 Leopard tanks, 14 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers, five MARS II multiple rocket launchers, and two Zuzana 2 wheeled self-propelled howitzers.
