The Ukrainian military only had enough weapons and equipment to sustain two or two-and-a-half months of war at the beginning of the conflict, former defense minister Oleksii Reznikov has revealed.
In his final report to the public on Tuesday, the former government official said Kyiv’s main issue after February 24, 2022, was weaponry.
He said the army would have run out of resources after a couple of months if Western allies did not send military aid packages.
“Our army would have been physically exhausted,” Reznikov reported. “We were getting all that we conceivably and inconceivably could.”
$100 Billion in Total Assistance
According to the former defense minister, the war-torn nation has received a total of $100 billion in military and humanitarian aid from allies.
It also took delivery of more than 7 million artillery shells, landmines, tank shells, and rockets.
In addition, Western allies reportedly donated over 4,500 artillery systems, 3,500 anti-air systems, and 6,500 armored vehicles.
In terms of manpower, a total of 70,000 Ukrainian troops, including pilots, mechanics, and medics, completed training abroad.
Among the countries that sent assistance to Ukraine, the US is still the biggest contributor, with more than $50 billion provided.
The figures do not include the latest $1 billion in military aid US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced Wednesday.
