Rheinmetall to Deliver Latest Reconnaissance Drone to Ukraine
Rheinmetall will deliver its next-generation reconnaissance drone system to Ukraine on behalf of the German government.
The low double-digit million euro contract is part of Germany’s latest military aid package to Ukraine initiated in July.
The contract will be fulfilled this year.
Real-Time Reconnaissance
The HX truck-mounted Luna NG system includes multiple drones, a catapult launch, and a ground control station.
The drone is designed to provide real-time reconnaissance, significantly improving the sensor-to-shooter chain.
Furthermore, the drone’s modular design allows a range of mission-specific payloads, including LTE network and electronic warfare support measures such as detection, classification, and analysis of electromagnetic radiation for threat detection.
Features
The latest in the Luna family of reconnaissance drones, the NG (new generation) can remain aloft for over 12 hours and has a range of 100 kilometers (62 miles), increased to 300 kilometers (186 miles) through satellite communication.
Its maximum operating altitude is 5,000 meters (16,400 feet), with a reconnaissance capability of several hundred kilometers.
