Iran Claims Military Helicopters Now Outfitted With Modern Gear
An Iranian military official has claimed that the country’s attack helicopters are now fitted with modern technologies to address future threats.
General Yousef Qorbani, the commander of the Airborne Division of the Army, said during a news conference last week that its choppers have been equipped with long-range, fire-and-forget missiles.
The missiles are reportedly capable of destroying hostile targets with pinpoint accuracy in only three seconds.
Additionally, Qorbani said that the helicopters are outfitted with night-vision sensors that are only available in a few countries.
The tech is expected to improve the detection and target acquisition capabilities of the aircraft during night missions.
Bolstering Readiness Despite Restrictions
Tehran’s move to upgrade its attack helicopters comes despite being sanctioned by Western countries over its role in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In November 2022, the Middle Eastern nation admitted to sending drones to Moscow, but insisted that they were not meant to be used against Kyiv.
Amid the restrictions, Qorbani praised local manufacturers for producing helicopter parts appropriate for modern threats.
He further stated that the Airborne Division now has the “best level of combat readiness” in the region due to the latest helicopter upgrade.
Iran will reportedly continue to develop defense items that would support future electronic warfare.
