The British military will receive Ground-Based Surveillance Radar systems to bolster its front-line threat detection capability following a contract signed with Elbit Systems UK.
The UK Ministry of Defence contract calls for the delivery of 90 radars through 2024 with an option for an additional 40.
“Elbit Systems UK has a deep understanding of the threat environment in which our servicemen and women operate,” CEO of Elbit Systems UK Martin Fausset said.
“By offering a portable solution for medium and short-range target detection, Elbit Systems UK is continuing to support the UK Ministry of Defence in providing leading situational awareness for those on the front line, using some of the best technology available.”
Radar Features
The Ground-Based Surveillance Radar utilizes digital signal processing to detect, track, and classify targets moving on or close to the ground, Elbit explained.
The system has been customized to meet the UK’s specific requirements, including an “optimized stabilization unit and open architecture software upgrades to facilitate integration both with existing and future MOD systems.”
Additional features include capture software to analyze operator performance in support of data-driven user training.
