Amentum and Mitie joint venture Landmarc Support Services has received a 560-million-pound ($702 million) contract to manage UK armed forces military training areas.

Under the agreement, the company will deliver management services across facilities, rural sites, and operational services for 156,000 hectares of UK Defence Training Estate.

The effort covers 16 major armed forces training areas and 104 minor training areas from Salisbury Plain in the southwest to Barry Buddon in Scotland.

Landmarc will carry out additional work, such as providing four million meals a year and one million beds for warfighters.

‘Transforming’ Training Field Management

The project will oversee one percent of the land in the country, playing a “crucial role” in upskilling British and foreign soldiers, acording to the UK Ministry of Defence.

Among recent initiatives at the country’s military training estates is preparing thousands of Ukrainian volunteer troops to defend against the Russian invasion.

To date, over 10,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces recruits have completed training at the sites.

“The new contract offers the opportunity to transform the way we manage our training areas,” Defence Infrastructure Organisation Training Head Brig. Gen. Jonathan Bartholomew said.

“The training estate includes training camps, range complexes and field firing areas, as well as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Special Conservation Areas.”

“Much of the training estate is open to the public and this new contract will help to ensure that these important spaces are well maintained and are kept safe for both the public and the military to use.”

Economic Boost

The initiative will secure 1,300 jobs in the UK, with future contracts expected to sustain the roles.

“This significant investment will help to ensure we continue to offer safe, secure and well-maintained training facilities for our Service Personnel as they prepare for operations worldwide,” UK Defence Procurement Minister James Cartlidge stated.

“The UK’s Defence Training Estate also provides a huge boost to our economy, with this contract sustaining more than a thousand jobs across the country.”
