Finland, Sweden Sign Joint Military Vehicle Procurements

Finland has signed an agreement with Sweden to procure military vehicle systems and related capabilities for their armed forces.

The pact will increase the joint military procurement of both countries while reducing budget costs.

Under the arrangement, both countries will buy land-based systems that may include tactical off-road, armored, and lightweight vehicles.

Options include snowmobiles, battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, main battle tanks, trucks, mobile grenade launchers, and other mobile artillery systems.

Furthermore, the agreement eyes the joint purchase of maintenance and collaborative military training for the acquired systems.

The next phase of the partnership will see Helsinki and Stockholm negotiate a framework contract with a single supplier to acquire tactical off-road vehicles and associated technologies.

Military Enhancement Cooperation

Earlier this month, the countries were joined by Germany in a multinational armed vehicle effort to procure enhanced mobility and firepower for their militaries.

The Common Armored Vehicle System program will develop a family of armed vehicles deployable for combat, peacekeeping, and humanitarian aid missions.

In March, Finland and Sweden signed a contract to expand their rifle supplies with firearms provider Sako.

The joint procurement will run for 10 years with an additional 21-year option until 2054. The package includes assault rifles, sniper rifles, and personal protection weapons.
