Mechanical solutions provider Koval Systems has won a contract for the complete turret assembly of Slovakia’s new CV90MkIV infantry fighting vehicles.

The agreement, awarded by CV90 manufacturer BAE Systems, will also see the Slovakian company produce associated mechanical parts.

An initial tranche of 80 parts will be developed at Koval System’s facility in Belusa. Trials for the overall system will be conducted later this year in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.

“Together with our Slovak partners, we are committed to delivering an infantry fighting vehicle equipped with advanced capabilities and digital technology to the Slovak Armed Forces,” BAE Systems Hägglunds Managing Director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask stated.

“The CV90 is a high-quality and very successful vehicle in the market that has proven itself through the rigours of combat.”

‘Long-Term’ Support for Military and Industry

According to BAE Systems, the agreement with Koval will establish a local industry network supporting CV90 production for the Slovak government, with more partners expected to join the program.

Last year, BAE selected ZTS-Special to provide a complete vehicle assembly for the future CV90MkIVs.

Other members of the industrial network include Ray Service for electrical component and sub-systems production and Aliter Technologies for command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence domain works.

“We believe that this program will benefit the Slovak Army and be a success for BAE Systems Hägglunds, KOVAL SYSTEMS, and our entire network of Slovak suppliers,” Koval Systems Business Director Ján Michálek said.

“These valuable new strategic partnerships will significantly help Slovak industry in the long-term.”

The CV90MkIV or CV9035 is the CV90’s latest iteration with upgraded digital technology and advanced tactical capabilities.

BAE received the contract for the future Slovak CV90MkIV fleet in 2022. The award is valued at $1.37 billion.
