The US State Department has approved the possible sale of six MH-60R multi-mission helicopters to Norway.

The estimated $1 billion sale includes equipment such as engines, sonars, and Global Positioning Systems.

The proposed sale would improve the Scandinavian nation’s Coast Guard capabilities, including “secondary missions, including vertical replenishment and communications relay,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated.

“Norway will use the enhanced capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense,” it added.

The proposed sale’s principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems, Owego, New York.

C-130J Sustainment and Services

The State Department also approved the proposed sale of sustainment and services of C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft for $166 million.

Oslo has requested sustainment services for four C-130Js beyond Block 6 through 2028.

The sale includes “Joint Mission Planning Systems, aircraft components, spare parts, consumables, and accessories.”

“The proposed sale will improve Norway’s capability to meet current and future threats by bolstering operational readiness while enhancing air and defense capabilities with a modernized fleet,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated.
