Elbit to Supply Automated Howitzers to International Customer
Elbit Systems has received a $102 million contract to supply autonomous truck-mounted howitzers (ATMOS) to an international customer.
According to the company, the system will be in the 155mm/52-caliber configuration.
The undisclosed international customer expects a greatly improved fire support capability once the howitzers are delivered.
They will have an effective range of 40 kilometers (25 miles) or more when fitted with rocket-assisted projectiles.
“Elbit Systems’ comprehensive integrated artillery solutions provide a valuable competitive edge to the ground forces of our customers around the world,” company official Yehuda Vered said.
“This contract is a vote of confidence in the advanced indirect fire solutions we provide.”
The contract will run for eight years, according to Elbit Systems.
‘Enhanced Firing Capabilities’
Elbit Systems’ ATMOS is designed to be mounted on any adapted high mobility 6×6 or 8×8 truck chassis for improved mobility.
It features an advanced electronic suite, allowing accurate navigation, autonomous operation, reduced crew size, and increased firepower.
The artillery system also boasts an automatic laying and loading system for reduced crew effort.
It can fire up to eight rounds per minute and support operations day or night.
The ATMOS can accommodate two to six crew members, including a driver, a commander, and up to four personnel.
