Cubic Defence UK has been contracted to continue supporting the British Army’s Area Weapons Effects Simulator (AWES) training system.
Under the agreement, the company will supply associated works and repairs for the platform based at the Salisbury Plain Training Area and for select overseas deployments as needed.
The contract follows a $35 million AWES extension contract signed by Cubic in 2020.
The Area Weapons Effects Simulator
AWES is equipped with an integrated tactical engagement simulation system providing users with immersive tactical training.
The trainer emulates large-scale force-on-force combat practice and projects realistic effects from artillery, mortar and direct fires, mines, airborne munitions, and nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons.
In 1998, Cubic received an order to develop AWES. The system was installed on the 150-square-mile (390 square kilometers) Salisbury training grounds in 2002.
Supporting Transformational Military Training
According to Cubic, the award sustains “world-class” combined arms maneuver training for British soldiers.
Using the AWES enables the service to employ training from sub-unit to battalion wherever it is required.
The contract enhances the company’s market position to support the early stages of the Collective Training Transformation Program to modernize UK defense training capabilities.
“Our longstanding partnership with the British Army is of the utmost value. We are pleased to be continuing our training support,” Cubic Global Solutions Vice President Mark Graper said.
“The contract ensures that we can build on the foundation of the work we’ve already accomplished together as we continue to advance the British Ministry of Defence training experience and standard through flexible, globally deployable technology interoperable with other simulations.”
