Turkey Unveils Indigenous Kamikaze Drone

Turkish firm Robit Technology unveiled the Azab kamikaze drone this week, a long-range loitering munition.

“We have done all the flight tests. We move on to ammunition tests. We will carry out ammunition tests in the coming months,” Anadolu Agency quoted company product director Selcuk Firat as saying.

“We are ready for production. We will be able to meet future orders.”

Features

The delta-winged platform is available in two versions with wing spans of 2 meters (6.5 feet) and 1.5 meters (4.92 feet).

Its take-off weight is 55 kilograms (121 pounds), and its maximum payload capacity is 15 kilograms (33 pounds).

The drone is compatible with various payloads, including mortar, tank, and RPG ammunition, Daily Sabah reported, citing Firat.

200-Kilometer Communication Range

The platform can fly up to 500 kilometers (310 miles) at a maximum altitude of 3,000 meters (9,842 feet).

The drone operates in “throw-and-forget” and “free-roam” modes, according to Daily Sabah

It can also be guided by camera from up to 200 kilometers (124 miles).

The company has developed two electric catapults for the two Azabs, measuring three and six meters (9.84 and 19.6 feet).

Robit is also developing a “rocket system” to launch the drone from a vehicle or container.

Export Potential

Firat told Anadolu Agency that the company’s new Azab is unique in its class in Turkey. He said that two countries have contacted them about the drone thus far.

“It will be a good product for both our exports and our army.”
