Global arms manufacturer Sig Sauer announced that it has acquired technology firm General Robotics for an undisclosed amount.

An Israeli company, General Robotics is known for manufacturing remote weapon stations and tactical robotics for both manned and unmanned platforms.

According to Sig Sauer president Ron Cohen, the move will greatly enhance the firm’s growing portfolio of advanced, sophisticated weapon systems.

It would also allow the New Hampshire-headquartered firm to leverage General Robotics’ expertise in developing cutting-edge defense technologies.

“The team at General Robotics is leading the way in the development of intuitive, lightweight remote weapon stations with their battle-proven solution,” Cohen emphasized.

Sig Sauer’s acquisition comes as it is poised to receive an estimated $331-million contract to supply 18,000 next-generation squad weapons, ammunition, and associated equipment to the US Army.

Revolutionizing Small Arms

With the acquisition, the firm plans to combine its lightweight squad weapons with General Robotics’ remote weapons station to revolutionize small arms for military forces worldwide.

It would exponentially increase the capabilities of lightweight weapon systems to support various missions.

The merger would also allow the companies to deliver transformative advancements in mobility, greater lethality, and battle-tested force protection.

“General Robotics and all our employees are honored to join forces with global defense leader Sig Sauer to integrate our platforms into a single solution to support military units around the world,” General Robotics CEO Shahar Gal said.

In 2022, General Robotics unveiled the latest version of its PITBULL remote control weapons station that features enhanced artificial intelligence-driven capabilities for improved situational awareness, response rate, and firepower.
