Lithuania has ordered 3,000 Minimi MK3 light machine guns from Belgian arms manufacturer FN Herstal.

Valued at 34 million euros ($36.4 million), the contract includes spare barrels, cleaning kits, belt, and sling bags.

The machine guns are 7.62×51-millimeter caliber, according to reports.

The weapons are expected to replace the KSP-58 and MG3 machine guns currently in service with the Lithuanian Army.

Deliveries of the MK3 light machine guns will begin later this year.

The MK3 Machine Gun

FN Herstal’s Mk3 machine gun has an ergonomic buttstock that can be adjusted for body armor and other equipment.

It also provides soldiers with a better grip, even if they use their weaker hand.

In addition, the Minimi has optical attachments to maximize fire accuracy and effectiveness even in low-light environments.

Unlike the aging KSP-58s, the Mk3 can be operated by only one person.
