STM has delivered the final bow section for the Turkish Navy’s future Reis-class submarine at Gölcük Shipyard Command.

The part will be integrated into the TCG Selmanreis, the last of six next-generation stealth submarines under development based on the navy’s Type 214 diesel-electric submarines.

Called “Section 50,” the bow section will house the Selmanreis’ primary weapon system of eight 533-millimeter torpedo tubes.

Locally-Made Submarine Compartment

STM said that Section 50 is the first of its type assembled with domestic capabilities in collaboration with Gürdesan Gemi Makinaları Sanayii Ticaret.

“Although this was the first time such production was carried out at this level, all deliveries were made on time without disrupting the project thanks to the knowledge, experience, and outstanding efforts of STM engineers,” STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated.

“We are also proud that we have succeeded in surpassing the targeted localization rate for the Reis Class Submarines, which will increase the deterrence of our Navy.”

“I congratulate all my teammates and stakeholders who contributed to this project, which is an important experience on the road to national submarine production.”

Turkish Military’s Added Strength

Alongside Selmanreis, three Reis submarines will be equipped with Section 50.

The remaining vessels will be built with torpedo tubes manufactured by German firm ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems.

“We continue our efforts to add strength to our country’s power in the Blue Homeland,” Turkish Defence Industries Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir said.

“May this last delivery for the Reis Class, which will be the most modern submarine platform of our country, be beneficial to our Nation…We will continue to take nationalization steps in critical systems.”

TCG Pirireis, the first of the class, completed its sea trials in December last year.
