Thales has received a contract to deliver a complete short-range air defense system to Ukraine.

As part of the contract, Thales will supply Ukraine with an air defense system package, associated equipment, and sensor systems.

It also includes the company’s GM200 radar, a radio communications system, air target designators, and a command and control center.

“Thales is proud to be playing a part in the protection of Ukraine, in particular by providing air defence systems.” Thales Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Patrice Caine stated.

According to Thales, the GM200 will enable Ukrainian forces to detect and track an array of aerial threats, such as helicopters, fighter jets, cruise missiles, and drones.

The GM200 covers 250 kilometers (155 miles) of a field in surveillance mode and 100 kilometers (62 miles) in engagement configuration.

The radar’s full-time 3D feed autonomously captures adversaries from -7 to 70 degrees in one rotation.

“As a recognised European leader in systems integration, Thales has the capability to integrate air defence systems-of-systems and to manage compatibility with other defences, which is a real advantage for users needing to deploy their assets quickly and efficiently,” a statement from Thales said.
