Finnish Armed Forces Obtain Anti-Tank Missiles From Eurospike

Finland has contracted German-Israeli weapons provider Eurospike to deliver anti-tank missiles for the Finnish armed forces.

Under the agreement, Eurospike will supply Finnish warfighters with its Spike fire-and-forget anti-tank precision-guided missiles.

The Spike missile system is designed to penetrate armored targets. The projectile’s latest multi-role light guided missile variant can engage threats between 4,000 and 5,500 meters (13,000 to 18,000 feet).

“Of great importance for Rheinmetall, this order also underscores the tremendous trust placed in EuroSpike GmbH: the German-Israeli joint venture is now an industrial mainstay of the anti-tank capability of many EU and NATO member nations,” a statement from Rheinmetall said.

Eurospike is a joint venture between Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Diehl Defence, and Rheinmetall Electronics.

Multiple Spike Variants to Finland

The Finnish Ministry of Defence announced its procurement of short-range, long-range, and extended-range Spike system variants in December.

The 223.6 million-euro ($242 million) sale will be executed in partnership with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency’s Land Combat Missiles Support Partnership program.

As part of this procurement, Rafael will serve as the product manufacturer. The firm will collaborate with life-cycle solutions supplier Millog to maintain the transaction’s associated capabilities.
