The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has signified its intention to procure smart aviation weapons from Safran.
The ministry said it is now in talks with the French defense firm for the potential acquisition of Armement Air‐Sol Modulaire (AASM) – Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range (HAMMER) with smart guided bombs.
The AASM-HAMMER is a next-generation medium-range air-to-ground weapon designed to neutralize enemy armored vehicles and other assets.
Jakarta plans to integrate the weapon into its new Rafale fighter jets ordered from France’s Dassault Aviation.
“In connection with the program to procure six Rafale fighters for Indonesia, the French Safran Group sees the potential use of Hammer as one of the weapons options that Rafale can carry,” the Indonesian defense ministry stated.
The AASM-HAMMER
Safran’s AASM-HAMMER is an interoperable missile system capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously.
It can strike stationary or moving targets with high precision at a range up to 60 kilometers (37 miles) if launched from high altitude and 15 kilometers (15 miles) at low altitude.
Operable in all weather conditions, the weapon system has a vertical strike capability that supports deep strikes and close combat.
