Northrop Grumman has awarded CAES a $24-million contract to support a ballistic firing precision solution for the US Army.

As part of the agreement, CAES will provide 8,000 M-Code global positioning system (GPS) antennas to Northrop Grumman over three years.

‘Critical Capability’

The antennas will be integrated into Northrop Grumman’s Precision Guidance Kits (PGK) currently in production for the army.

PGKs modify conventional projectiles into GPS-guided precision weapons to intercept threats while limiting collateral damage.

With the M-Code antennas, the guided-precision kits will obtain enhanced security and anti-jamming during tactical firing operations.

“PGK’s precision provides a critical capability to artillery units, enabling forces to rapidly achieve mission success while also reducing the number of rounds required to defeat targets,” Northrop Grumman Armament Systems Vice President Dave Fine explained.

Supporting US Army Precision

According to CAES, the employment of M-Code technology with PGK makes the program among the US Department of Defense’s most extensive precision-related efforts.

“Our advanced capabilities in antenna design and manufacturing are a natural fit in supporting these advanced munitions,” CAES President and CEO Mike Kahn stated.

“We’re proud to support Northrop Grumman on the PGK program to bring accurate, reliable and affordable precision fires to the Army.”
