Allison Transmission has teamed up with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to provide its 3040 MX propulsion solution for the Indian Army’s futuristic infantry combat vehicle (FICV) prototype.
The partnership supports the army’s plans to procure approximately 1,750 FICVs over the next 20 years.
Furthermore, the program supports the “Make in India” modernization program to replace the service’s aging BMP-1 and BMP-2 IFVs.
Allison’s 3040 MX
The 3040 MX is based on Allison’s X300 propulsion solution that has powered the European CV90 and Warrior IFV for over three decades.
Today, the 3040 MX offers advanced electronic system controls for vehicle performance optimization and other tactical features unavailable on its predecessor.
Several 3040 MXs were previously produced for the US Army’s mobile protected firepower vehicle.
‘Commitment’ to Indian Defense
Under the collaboration, Allison will work on the engineering design, fabrication, testing, and trials of the prototype’s 3040 MX transmission until 2024.
