Israeli aerospace firm Elbit Systems will deliver seven Watchkeeper X tactical unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to Romania.

Under a $410 million framework agreement, Elbit will establish infrastructure and industrial cooperation with its British and Romanian subsidiaries to develop the Watchkeeper X in the Eastern European country.

The deal is scheduled to last for five years.

“This contract demonstrates the sustained demand for Elbit Systems’ UAS. We look forward to further strengthening Elbit Systems’ relationship with the Romanian Government,” President and CEO Bezalel Machlis said.

The British-made unmanned aircraft is equipped with electro-optical/infrared and ground-moving target indication/synthetic aperture radar sensors, enabling Watchkeeper X to respond to various operational military challenges in all environments.

“Combined with its tactical strike capability, this further crucial dimension to Watchkeeper X provides an accurate, proportional response to many of today’s operational military challenges,” the company said.

Developed by Elbit’s UK subsidiary UAV Tactical Systems Limited, at least 40 Watchkeepers have been in service with the Royal British Army.

The aircraft is compatible with NATO standards, allowing for interoperability among allied armed forces.
