Elbit to Supply Hermes 900 Drones to Undisclosed International Buyer
Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems has received a $72-million contract to supply an undisclosed international customer with Hermes 900 unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
Under the two-year agreement, Elbit will deliver Hermes 900 drones equipped with the company’s electro-optical system, including a wide area persistent surveillance system, multi-spectral electro-optical payload, satellite communication, and signal intelligence payloads.
The deal also includes training.
“This contract is another vote of confidence in the Hermes family of UAS,” Elbit General Manager Yoram Shmuely said.
“We are witnessing growing demand around the globe for our unmanned solutions that are capable of effective integration with manned forces to address the rapidly evolving threats in all domains of operation.”
Electro-Optical System Capabilities
The multi-role Hermes 900 is a highly autonomous aircraft with persistent multi-payload capabilities of up to 350 kilograms (772 pounds).
The Elbit drone is equipped with high-performance sensors, including the SkEye surveillance system, which allows for precise detection of both ground and maritime targets over a wide spectral range.
As a high-resolution, wide area persistent video surveillance system, SkEye enables users real-time ubiquitous situational awareness.
The Hermes 900 also features the Spectro XR multi-spectral electro-optical payload.
The ultra-long range payload features digital imaging, high definition sensors, and advanced lasers for improved performance in adverse weather conditions day and night.
“The heart of the system is a multi-spectral imaging system that combines multiple optical channels into one and improves performance without increasing size and weight,” Elbit said.
