The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has completed a distance learning course on commander training for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Troop Leading Procedures in Movement course was provided under the NATO Defence Education Enhancement Program to provide commanders with theoretical and practical knowledge.

Led by Major Gintautas Razma of the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, the course highlighted battlefield management strategies for cadets and junior military officers.

“The course is based on various demonstrations teaching to assess the terrain correctly and to use it for modeling variations of hostile and then friendly force move sequence,” Razma explained.

The class was held for a fourth time at Ukraine’s request. According to the major, the instruction is a product of Lithuania’s “high-level officer education” that is “appreciated internationally.”

The class was delivered in English to around 30 personnel per session, training more than 120 junior commanders to date.

Lithuania-Led Missile Training for Ukrainian Troops

In February, the Lithuanian defense ministry deployed troops to Ukraine to train local warfighters to use anti-aircraft missiles.

The US-made aerial defense systems were provided by the Baltic States in response to the Russian troop buildup. At that time, more than 100,000 Russian troops were already at the Ukrainian border.

“We have fully supported, are supporting and will continue to support Ukraine,” Lithuanian Chief of Defense Valdemaras Rupsys said during the missile training commencement.

“Weapons and technology are nothing without the knowledge and ability to use them, so… we will share our knowledge and experience.”
