The US Naval Surface Warfare Center has awarded BAE Systems a $143 million contract to support the Surface Combat Systems Center at Wallops Island, Virginia.
The five-year agreement includes the provision of engineering, maintenance, management, and IT services for the Dahlgren site.
BAE Systems will cover the site’s major systems engineering and activities to assist the navy in testing, training, and supporting various deployed surface systems, next-generation capabilities under development, warfare systems integration, interoperability, exercises, and sea trials.
Work for the project will also continue supporting the integration of mission equipment, combat systems, and computer programs.
“Our work at Wallops Island supports SCSC’s mission to provide increased readiness and improved capability to the fleet,” BAE Systems Integrated Defense Solutions Vice President and General Manager Lisa Hand said.
“This effort is vital to our nation’s sailors in an increasingly challenging maritime environment.”
Surface Combat Systems Center
The US Navy’s Surface Combat Systems Center is managed by more than 300 military, contractor, and civilian personnel.
The center comprises mission-critical assets used by the US Navy in modernization initiatives for existing surface vessels, including cruisers, destroyers, and amphibious ships.
It operates on Wallops Island alongside the NASA Wallops Flight Facility and NOAA Wallops Command and Data Acquisition Station.
