Fincantieri has signed memorandums of understanding with potential suppliers for four future Greek corvettes and integrated logistics and in-service solutions for the Hellenic Navy.
The agreements, inked at the Italian Embassy in Athens, support the “high-profile process” for the corvette program set by the Hellenic National Defence Ministry.
In addition to the corvette development, the suppliers will work alongside Fincantieri to support several existing and future naval programs in Greece.
Fincantieri’s Projects
Fincantieri is currently constructing corvettes and other vessels for several forces worldwide, most of which achieved milestones this year.
For example, the company began constructing the first U212 next-generation submarine and the second Vulcano-class logistics ship for the Italian Navy in January.
More recently, the company started work on the US Navy’s first Constellation-class guided missile frigate, which is expected to be delivered in 2026.
Qatari Corvettes
In 2016, the Italian company received a major contract from the Qatari Ministry of Defence to build seven surface vessels for the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces.
The $3.9 billion contract includes four 100-meter (328 feet) corvettes, two offshore patrol vessels, and an amphibious landing platform dock.
