Sweden has signed a framework agreement with System Engineering Solutions (SES) for the domestic production of 460,000 protective masks.

Under the agreement, the company will manufacture the Protective Mask 90 and accessories in the Scandinavian country, with the option for an additional 225,000 masks.

“In crises, it is especially important to have a secure supply of personal protective equipment. That is why we have demanded domestic production of the face shields,” Swedish Defence Materiel Administration Project Manager Gunnar Palm said.

The mask’s design will be based on the existing Face Shield 90 and will be integrated with sun and laser protection.

Using the existing design will also allow SES to easily update information about the mask’s maintenance and documentation.

Record-Breaking Sale

During the procurement of Protective Mask 90, Sweden handled more than 150 authorizations to greenlight the framework agreement.

The deal is expected to give local government personnel, rescue services, and national administrations throughout the Swedish government the opportunity to obtain proper face protection.

Due to increasing demand, the standard CE marking will be embedded in the masks to approve its utility in civilian areas.

“This has been a very extensive procurement with a record number of stakeholders. We are proud to be able to secure access to protection over the next few years,” Palm said.
