Iran claims to have developed a long-range drone that can strike the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa.

The announcement was made by Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari, commander of the Iranian Army’s ground forces, amid increasing tensions between the two Middle Eastern countries.

According to the senior Iranian military commander, the Arash-2 drone is a “unique bird” explicitly built to strike urban areas in Israel.

It is an upgraded version of the Arash-1, the country’s longest-range suicide drone, with greater precision.

The Arash-2 drone reportedly has “unique capabilities” and can loiter until it engages a target.

Heidari also explained that the unmanned system could act as a “spotter” and hit the same targets as the Fateh ballistic missile.

The drone’s capabilities will reportedly be unveiled in future exercises.

Heightened Tension

Heidari’s announcement comes as Israel continues to strike Iran-backed groups in Syria.

Last week, Jerusalem struck an airport in northern Syria where a warehouse used by Iran-affiliated militia was allegedly located.

Tehran has also accused Israel of disrupting the ongoing negotiations to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.

In response to threats from its arch-foe, Heidari said Iran’s military today has strategic drones and missiles that can strike at extended ranges.

He further stressed that the army is equipped with cutting-edge technology to defend itself in a conflict.
