The Indian Army’s Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) system has completed a series of flight trials at an integrated test range in eastern India.

The tests were held to evaluate the system ahead of full-rate production and fielding.

According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, the QRSAM system was tested against high-speed aerial targets simulating various threats.

The Army and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) assessed if the missile could maneuver and hit targets at both long-range medium and short-range high altitudes.

The system’s low radar signature and ability to launch two missiles in quick succession were also evaluated.

The trials were conducted in daylight and at night to determine if the system can operate at any time of the day.

Meeting Mission Objectives

The defense ministry said that the QRSAM system successfully met all mission objectives after six flight tests.

The missile reportedly demonstrated “pinpoint accuracy” in hitting targets utilizing its state-of-the-art guidance and control algorithms.

The system’s performance was validated through data collected by various instruments, including Telemetry, Radar, and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems.

“The uniqueness of the QRSAM weapon system is that it can operate on the move with search and track capability and fire on short halt. This has been proven during the mobility trials conducted earlier,” the Indian Ministry of Defence explained.

He exuded confidence that the QRSAM weapon system would be a tremendous force multiplier for the armed forces.

With the reported success of the QRSAM trials, minister Rajnath Singh and other defense officials expressed their confidence that the system will soon be ready for induction into the Indian Army.Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) system
