Damen Naval has awarded a contract to Kongsberg Maritime Sweden AB to provide four sets of propeller systems for the German Navy’s new F-126 frigates (MKS 180).
The package includes Kongsberg’s Controllable Pitch Propeller Systems, associated hubs, shaft lines, blades, and hubcaps.
The deal is part of a 4.6-billion-euro ($4.6 billion) contract awarded by Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment Information Technology and In-Service Support to Damen Naval and partners to develop four frigates for the German Navy.
The work for this project will be held at shipyards in Hamburg, Kiel, and Wolgast.
The frigates will be delivered between 2028 and 2031, with an option for two more vessels after 2031.

Future German F-126 Frigates
The F-126 frigates will have an overall length of approximately 160 meters (525 feet) and a displacement of 10,000 tons.
The vessels will have the capacity for 114 crew members and will include 80 additional cabins for personnel.
The ships will be an asset in future operations across all maritime warfare domains, according to Kongsberg.
They will also act as command ships for task groups and join other activities such as counter-piracy missions, maritime escort and convoy tasks, naval embargo enforcement, long-term maritime patrolling, and special forces support.
